Argentina will have the record production of wine for the Southern hemisphere in 2009, totaling 15.25 million hectoliters, compared to the 15.046 in 2008. The figures are from the International Organization of Vines and Wines (OIV), based in Paris, France.

Argentina which is a full member of OIV, was also the largest consumer in the region last year, with 11.166 hectoliters. The country also enjoys the largest area of vineyards with 2.3 million hectares.

Argentina accounts for the third largest imports into the United Kingdom, after Australia and Chile.
