IT may have trouble with its ageing planes, but Qantas business and first-class flyers can rest assured they're getting a decent tipple.

The airline has taken out six awards in the annual Cellar in the Sky competition, including best business and first-class cellars, and the top red and white wines.

It beat 36 airlines from across the globe -- including full-service heavyweights Emirates, Etihad, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific -- to take out the top spots in the awards hosted by Business Traveller magazine.

Qantas also received an award for the consistency of its wines across the first and business classes, while Air New Zealand was judged to have the best presented wine list.

The annual competition was independently scored by five judges after two days of blind tastings in London.
