Hi
Demand for New Zealand wines is at an all-time high, however so is production! 2011 vintage was up 23% on the controlled 2010 year with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris all leading the increase with approximately 30% + increase. At 325,000 tonnes, New Zealand biggest harvest!
October 2011 exports are 168 m. litres, up 10% on the previous year and YTD October 2011 exports are 74.3 m. litres up 10% (or 11.8 m. litres) on the previous year. Bulk wines, both those for Private wine labels and also for wineries bottling under their own Winery label at destination showed an increase which was not unexpected.
Australia is New Zealand's biggest market and like New Zealand, grocery plays an important part in sales. Woolworths for example carries 6,130 domestic wines, including 225 private label wines which is less than 4% of SKU’s. New Zealand wines fit well into the Australian portfolio. The United Kingdom is our second biggest market followed by the United States.
Domestic trading is tough and international trading is competitive! The New Zealand market needs to align itself to the competitive environment we are in if we are to move forward and grow.
New listings and reductions are now posted and updated on the website. Some parcels may be split by wineries so if there is something that may be of interest, it could be worth a look. If you have wine surplus to your requirements, either bulk or in clean skin format that we do not know about then you might be missing out. Listing wines either in bulk or clean skin is free. You can't sell a secret! If we don't know, please make us familiar with your position (buying or selling) and we will direct enquiries through our database.
Wine Network's core purpose is to provide buyers the best choice and sellers the best opportunities when dealing with New Zealand wine, either bulk, clean skin or Private Label.
